maternity clothes? I've looked online and all I find are tent like shirts and leggings, disgusting! Old Navy is great, but the size I need can only be ordered online, so therefore I have to pay a shipping charge and wait weeks for comfy clothes to wear. Does this bother anyone else or is it just me? It seems as though the maternity clothing manufacturers think that only skinny women have sex and get pregnant, and if your are bigger and you get pregnant that you have no sense of style whatsoever and will wear any old thing they throw at you. Hormones again? Maybe, but it is bothersome...anyone else?

Hey there! I am sorry that you are having a tough time buying clothes. Old navy as much as they are cute tends to run on the smaller side anyway. I also find that their maternity clothes as well as the rest of their clothes doesn't last long. They tend to get beat up in the wash. Have you tried Target yet? Target has a great selection. Motherhood does too but they tend to be pricey and have a horrible return policy. They also run small (a way for them to get you to buy more clothes) Some of the other department stores also have a maternity section. Macy's, Sears, JC Penny, even Walmart does now. Do you live near any outlets? I know there are Maternity outlets scattered around. You can also try eBay or Craig's list maybe you can get a great deal and buy a whole mess of clothes for little money. Good Luck!

It seems like they make maternity clothes absurdedly small. I was wearing extra large shirts when I got pregnant, but once my belly started showing a lot there was no way I was fitting into an XL maternity top. I found some cute pants at Motherhood Maternity, and then for shirts I did this...I bought cute tops in the regular plus size department in a size big enough to cover my belly. They were a lot more flattering than the the maternity shirts, and I had much more to choose from. I would check out the plus size section of somewhere like TJ Maxx...that way you can get something nice without spending a lot...after all, why pay top dollar for something you only need for a few months?

No I totally know how you feel. With this pregnancy I am signifigantly larger then my last pregnancy. I've had problems with my weight since I started the Depo shot right after my son was born and that was four years ago. I stopped taking it but I swear that the hormones for birth control were my problem. Well, when I got pregnant I was about 40lbs bigger then I was when I got pregnant with my son. I've already gained 44lbs and I'm seven months. I seriously wear hoodies and jeans because the maternity clothes are horrible...I love Gaps maternity clothes but they are totally for the skinny women out there. I just think because I'm so heavy now that they would look really bad on me and then the only other clothes are like you said...pretty bad. It stinks. I can't wait to have the baby and work super hard to lose all the weight and then some so I can wear cute clothes again. I'm sick of wearing hoodies and feeling like a bum all the time. But I guess that society for ya...they expect all of us to be super models..pretty crappy if you ask me.

I think the absolute opposite is true! Two thirds of our country's women are already overweight, and that makes for some very large pregnant ladies (nothing wrong with that if you're healthy and overweight).

I'm 5'6, skinny, and five months pregnant and I can't find any maternity clothes to fit me. The smallest sizes at target, wal-mart, and even old navy are too big (even the size two jeans - absurd!) I have a huge belly, but small hips and butt. I though a specialty maternity store like Motherhood would have something...but no. They do, however, have a PLUS SIZE section of the store!
I've realized that the only think I can do is to buy normal clothes in a larger sze and roll down the waist of the pants to under my belly - very unprofessional, but what else is a girl to do.

I guess I'm just saying that the grass is always greener, and I betcha that both you and me are sitting here wishing we were a size 10!

Also, Old Navy has $5 shipping all the time with free returns. if you find $200 worth of maternity clothes from them online that'll fit, what's $5?

i find the majority of maternity clothes to be awful in anycase. skinny or not it seems that they are made to hide the pregnant belly. I happen to find pregnant bellies very attractive and think that they should be shown off. on the other hand, speaking form a once larger woman's perspective (and someone having big feet) stuff that looks great on a smaller woman, even if it is refitted and designed for a larger woman, tends to look awful. it's hard to find attractive shoes in my size for one thing. i am pretty tall for a woman (six feet tall) and have correspoding shoes size. well, whe i try on a pair of shoes that have a smaller size and look great, they tend to look just terrible on MY feet. when i was pregnant i found the same problem. It's also, though, a matter of money. How much you can spend on clothes. If you can't spend much and you have to buy a lot, then you are going to be stuck with unnattractive clothes because they are usually cheaper. if you can achieve a decent budget (say four hundred dollars...just for clothes, underwear is a different story altogether) Then you can get better looking clothes to fit you.

Being decorative should be the last thing on your mind just now - the things that ya should be doing is getting rest, keeping healthy, eating well and learning all you can about how to cope with what will ultimately be the biggest challenge of your life..

Instead here is your gripe - you cannot still look sexually attractive.. I suspect therefore that your partner (and you must have one because a single gal - like one who lived on a desert island would not give a hoot how she was looking at this time) does not make you feel reassured at this vulnerable time. Maybe you feel that if you 'let yourself go' you will lose his love/affection or him?

Part of being pregnant is not looking great - even with the right clothes the bump and various other biological changes will often make you feel like the least attractive person on the planet.. all mothers have been there..BUT (big BUT too) that should not matter at all so try not to worry about the tent clothes or looking naff.. what you are doing - bringing a new human being into the world is an amazing achievement and it is that you should focus on.

Meantime - explain to your partner that you feel worried that you do not look the way you used to and cannot be as lovely as you would like - if he is a good un he will not be bothered and will make you feel a £1,000,000 anyways.

Best of luck and do remember you are a person NOT a decoration..

Motherhood maternity makes clothes for larger sized women and they are reasonably attractive.Skip Target -- i found most of their clothes , maternity and regular , to be made very small.

my mom felt the same way when she was pregnant with my baby sister two years ago...

She is a bigger woman, and couldn't find anything that was cute in the first plac.e then she got pregnant, and got bigger... so it just made her emotional and upset.
