Why is it we sometimes become so self absorbed in our own hurt, pain, and every day life, we magnify our hurt, and pain to be much bigger than everyone elses, that we forget about those who are worse off than ourselves.....i always try to take the time to put my feelings to one side, just so i can listen and share my compassion with someone else ...what about you?....are you too self absorbed?.......i'm talking about in real life, not just here.

not being self absorbed does not mean you have to be superhuman...just setting aside a little time to think about others, is that so hard to do, giving a little time to others can actually be a good thing, this does not mean you deny yourself feeling your own pain, or hurt, but being able to spare a little time for someone else...cant hurt that bad can it??......

You have a wonderful attitude, keep it up! I'm not too self-absorbed but, I, like you, know many people who are.

Well, when you're a person such as yourself....not self absorbed and helping/listening to people all the time, is it selfish to seek out the help and compassion for yourself? Or must we always be superhuman? Sometimes, I feel like throwing in the towel and ask others to help me. We all need it now and again! Don't you agree?

I agree, some of us get so wrapped up in our own problems we don't see the big picture. I had a pretty tough childhood, and being the oldest sibling, I had no time to dwell on my problems much. I now see this as a good thing, it made me independent and mature and realize that no matter how bleak things look, there are always those that are far worse off than you, so get over it. I taught my children to also not dwell on the negative and always be kind hearted.

I believe that I have the right to feel my pain and sufferings but I never get to the point where I forget about others who suffers more than me. Feeling my hurt is my way of accepting the things that's hurting me. I never set my feelings aside because by doing so, I'm creating a ticking time bomb inside me that's soon gonna explode.

No two things can occupy the same space if you are thinking about others or
other things then your not thinking about yourself. That is for real if you are moving in the direction of love and peace then you are not moving in the direction of hate and destruction.Taking action is positive even to write notes and emails to serve or not thinking about yourself is moving away from self absorption .However, remember self reflection is a good thing .

compassion is self-absorption by proxy
