left hand drive, that person told me that they only have right hand drive in places like the British Isles, Hong Kong, and Australia. But in the movie Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, all the Japanese cars were right hand drive. Am I right in assuming that Japan does have right hand drive then? I hate it when someone gives me the wrong information, with my "near" photographic memory and in this case, I walk around with the wrong information for years without realizing it.

North American cars imported to countries with right hand drive are built to that specification. Although I have never been to Japan, I have driven in the UK and Australia. North American vehicles such as Jeeps or Neons were right hand drive. Incidentally, the Neon I saw was built with many differences from our more familiar left hand drive variety. The engine compartment was completely reversed with the battery, steering gear and brake reservoirs on the other (the driver's) side. Unfortunately, I cannot remember if the engine, transmission and drive train were also backwards, but the placement of the above would indicate they were.

Japan has right hand drive.
The reason why Japan imports a lot of left hand drives is because it is seen as a status symbol.

You should always look to cinema to clear up any factual issues that you may have. Movies will never lead you in the wrong direction and are hardly ever made with errors or artistic differences.

I understand how difficult it must be to have a photographic memory. It must make simple tasks extraordinarily difficult.

I believe American cars exported to Japan are retrofitted for right hand drive.
