I was thinking of getting a games console for my daughter for christmas (she is 10yrs old) but i have no idea which one to get.
Is the Nintendo DS any good and what is the difference between that and the Nintendo DS Lite?

Nintendo's always a good brand for the young'uns and the DS is great. If you're looking for something to connect to your tv, go for the Wii. I think it's coming out at a basement-bargain price, but I can't remember how much exactly. Go to this site, they usually have good prices on these things.

DS would be a good start for her. For kids anything Nintendo. The DS is a great little games console and the Lite version is just a bit smaller I think. Better for little hands.
ps DON'T get a PSP. They are not as good as everyone says. Whats the point in having a portable movie player that's battery doesnt hold enough charge to watch a film? Nintendo all the way!

I'd definitely get her a DS lite if I were you. I have most of the games consoles available at the moment and think for a 10 year old girl, the DS lite is the right choice. It's small and light, and the number of games available for it far exceeds any other portable console. The other benefit is that as well as playing Nintendo DS games, it will also play the older Gameboy Advance games, which are cheaper.
The DS lite is also now available in pink....perfect for a 10 year old girl !

She might enjoy the Playstation 3 console or the XBox 360. The Nintendo DS is good, but I believe it is a portable system. So unless she really likes playing games on the go, I would highly recommend a home system.

the nintendo ds is a very good choice for a girl 10 years old, the diference between a ds and a ds lite is that lite version is smaller with a better look, brighter screen, and 10 more hours of battery and it cost like a normal ds.

DS Lite is a 'skinny' version of the DS. Exactly the same apart from size and weight.

Why don't you wait a while and go for a Wii. It's Nintendo's new 'home console', so she won't be able to loose it outside - and she's right in Nintendo's new target audience.

The DS lite is just an smaller lighter update of the DS, i think the touch screen is a bit more resiliant too.

I have a DS and love it, I'm a big kid so I think it would suit your daughter. There is a lot of child friendly games, such as mario, nintendogs, etc.

A DS Lite is a better version and smaller. Get a DS Lite. It's great and it has less expensive games and you can play GBA games on it.

My son is 8 and my husband and i are getting him a PSP, they are much better and the graphics are so real, a little more expensive, but well worth the money, you can also watch films on them, and the kids play with them for hours. We did speak about getting an Nintendo DS, but its not a good console for what youre getting for your money. best of luck !!!.xxx
