It is puzzling as to why Bush's folks would so brazenly display the banner for all the world to see. Because certainly it's obvious: no weapons of mass destruction have or will be found (unless the U.S. plants them); nor did the Iraqi government use any against the United States. So that mission wasn't accomplished. And it's pretty clear that the Iraqi civilians haven't been liberated, unless you consider being shot at and killed for protesting against the United States, liberation. Or having your collective history and rich culture destroyed in a matter of weeks, liberation. Or going without sufficient food, water or medical care, liberation. Or having an interim government imposed on you, liberation. So that mission, unfortunately, wasn't accomplished either.
Pretty pathetic scorecard. But certainly if Karl Rove decided to parade the banner "Mission Accomplished," they had to have accomplished something. So as Mr. Bush dragged on with his insipid speech, one would continue ponder what exactly was the mission? And then it hits, as clear as day, or rather, as "black" as night: the oil! the Texas tea! the Bush-Cheney life-blood! Mission CERTAINLY was accomplished!!!!!!!!

I think I can help you guys, you all seem to be confused. I am from Somalia and lived there all of my life, and I never heard about Obama until his first win in IOWA. The point I wanna make is that the photo I have seen doesnot show Obama dressed as Muslim, this dress is cultural dress and the place the guy visited is not Somalia its the border of Ethiopia and Kenya. another thing is who said Somalis are terrorists and extremists? Somalia is one of the most moderate muslim countries in the world, and since Obama said he isnt Muslim that is it, a Muslim doesnot say he is not. If you elect Obama or anyone else its upto you we dont care in Somalia all americans are same for US. there is one believe there no matter who becomes the US president he wont be good for Somalia so that is my point.

Yes... The mission of removing Saddam and his evil regime was accomplished... after that the new mission became to help the Iraqi people reform a free government, and to add some protection and rebuilding while that has been in effect....

Wow, look at all the republicans trying to lie their way out of this one. They are incredible. No matter how bad this president is, they will back him to the end. Unfortunately, with him in charge, the end gets nearer every day.
Mission accomplished, war won't last more than a couple of months, war will pay for itself with oil, they will greet us as liberators, Iraq has wmd, Iraq has ties to terrorist groups, the lies just keep coming and conservatives keep eating them up.

Saddam is going to hang, and Bush was president when it happened. This History will be what children will be learning from their text books...Bush will be a Hero! And the USA a winner!

The mission he was referring to was accomplished..
He said Saddam Hussein's defeat "is one victory in a war on terror" that still goes on. "We have removed an ally of al-Qaida and cut off a source of terrorist funding. And this much is certain: No terrorist network will gain weapons of mass destruction from the Iraqi regime because that regime is no more."

Was the 'mission' ever actually DEFINED? How can you say that you've won if you have no definition of what victory would be?
