How old are Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma on Scooby Doo?

Before you all post abusive answers - I KNOW IT'S ONLY A CARTOON!!!!

..but seriously, if they are all teenagers,
a. where are their acne spots?
b. why aren't they home in bed by 11p.m.
c. why are their parents letting them roam the country the way they do?
d. how can they afford to run that van - they don't appear to have a job between them?
e. should teenagers be exposed to risky situations like that?

According to the original series bible from 1969 by Scooby-Doo, Where are You! creators Joe Ruby and Ken Spears (who later left Hanna-Barbera to build their own Saturday morning empire), the kids are all supposed to be high school juniors: Fred and Shaggy are 17, Daphne is 16, and Velma is 15.

I wasn't going to post that. I never did with anyone else, but

a. I don't think the creator of the cartoon would show that since he probably wants to keep the cartoons fresh-looking and young.

b. They solve too much mysteries and like to stay up late

c. Probably because they either don't care or they know theire children are doing a good job at solving mysteries

d. I guess they still have their "piggy bank" money ^_^ or just asked their parents for some

e. And sometimes, I guess they do that with a lot of cartoons nowadays so they probably just do that for the attention. I wouldn't though! ^_^

Well, to answer your 4th question, (d.) I think Daphne's parents are wealthy..meaning they should have money to have been able to buy and use the van. For the 1st, (A.) do you really think the creators of Scooby Doo would want to have their characters looking like pizza faces? For the 5th, (E.) No, teenagers shouldn't be exposed to situations like that..but hey, its a cartoon from around the 70s..why are you going to bother questioning their logic?

Good questions....let me see if I can help. All are between 19 and 20. They can be out and not have money because their parents think they are in college. They got the van from money their parents thought was for college. They were the first to invent Proactive, thus no acne. Since they are deliquents that lie to their parents, steal their money and don't care about their education....they run their own risk of being in those situations.

Good question. I've always figured they must be early twenties, since they are allowed to drive. And perhaps they are "private investigators" - so they actually get paid to fool around!
