Steve Biko

A leader of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, Biko saw that in order to triumph, a new generation must be educated to be able to confront the leaders of the Apartheid government. He radicalized and educated the township youth within the Black Conciousness Movement, planting the seeds of education within the generation that would eventually win freedom for blacks in South Africa. While embracing non-violence, he did not believe in passivity and would confront his oppressors on their terms.

He was murdered by the police on 11 September, 1977.

You can thank his theory of General Relativity for the bulk of that!
