Call the credit agency (equifax, experian, transunion) and tell them whats going on and have them put an alert on your ssn for identity theft and fraud.

Equifax - 18006851111
Experian - 18883973742
Transunion - 18008884213

In the future, do NOT give your SSN until you are filling out payroll sheets. Presently, I'd do a search on the company you applied to and find out if they are on the "up + up". If not, call the provincial police or RCMP in your area. Local boys can't do much. Make sure you get a case #. Without it, you have no proof you ever called. You may need the date + time of the report too. In the US, I understand the FBI handles all such cases.

Check out the Better Business Bureau site and see if they are listed. If not check the internet by googling them and see what you can find out about them. I don't know what you can do since they already have your ss number.
