Tibia which is also known as the shin bone is located beside the fibula which is laso known as calf bone. These bones in laymans term is the leg bone. Tibia is on the medial(inner) and carries most of the weight of the body. Fibula which is on the lateral(outside) which is very thin that looks like the leg of a cow is more for support and attachment of the foot.

Well without the tibia, you'd be stuck with just the fibula, a skinny bone beside the tibia.... the fibula couldnt support your weight.... the tibia is also a spot that connects your kneecap and allows is to slide freely and protects the joint.. yay for the tibia YAY!...also contains your medial malleolus, or your inner ankle bone, so i guess its purpose could be pain.
