New York City is the largest city in the U.S. Mexico City is often cited at the largest in the world in terms of population (but I don't think this is correct).

Don't forget to take into account that some measure by population, square miles (or other measurement), and even metropolitan area (more than one municipality).

As far as land area is concerned, I recall reading something about Sitka, Alaska recently...not populous, just a lot of land. Previous to Sitka was Juneau, but after some kind of consolidation, Sitka became the largest...
