If I happen to be in a situation where my organization's employees were cut in half, making the rest of the employees afraid of me and co-managers suspicious of my motives, how could I gain their trust to recover productivity and satisfaction? Thank you

Thanks to Big Blue and their being the pioneers in "downsizing", this is a common scenario nowadays.

Spread the workload as evenly as possible, ask for and pay attention to their input and implement ideas worthy of consideration where possible. BE HONEST if at all possible. Understand that workers today are wearing several hats and stress is so thick in the workplace it can be sliced up for sandwiches. Reward loyalty and do not encourage suckups.

Give praise where its due, criticise constructively and fairly, above all treat employees well as they are your main assets,m without them your business fails unless you can do it all yourself ! There is nothing worse then high staff turnover because of ill feeling or bad employer practices. Why not have a big knees up( party) for your new colleagues ?

I'll tell you what not to do.... don't suddenly throw some kind of party or training seminar to celebrate the workplace.

I can't speak for the culture of your workplace, but if this were mine, I would remind everyone there personally that they were kept for a reason.

Nothing works better than letting something like that "slip" to the office gossip.
