Vote straight Democrat no matter what

I'd say:

1) decide the issues that are important to you
2) research how the candidates vote on those issues
3) vote for who will support your side of the issues

What not to do:

1) get political insights FROM ANYONE on Yahoo Answers, most is wrong and some is absolutely stupid.

Other than that, congrats and good luck, voting is addicting.

Study all issues and candidates. Look up the candidate's voting records. Take in all info. Be especially doubtful of blogs and political ads. Then vote as you believe is best. Don't let others decide for you.

There is a simple way to decide who to vote for. I find out who Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell support and then vote for the candidate with the best chance to beat that S.O.B.. Just vote Democrat and you will be safe ...........Literally.

Read about each candidate before you vote- decide who you agree the most with... not their party... just that candiate- you may not agree with everything but the majority of what they say... please also read the admendments, know whether to vote yes or no.. sometimes they are turned around so you have to research them to make sure if you vote yes or no that you are voting that way...

Vote independent. Although many people think it is a wasted vote. They are the only ones not following party lines and are passionate about democracy.

Ask yourself if you are satisfied with the way things have been going in this country as well as the rest of the world for the last six years or not!

if you are not satisfied and want to change this hopefully for the better - vote Democrat.

if you are satisfied and do not want to change anything to keep things going as "business as usual" - vote Republican.

But Vote!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck!

If you like it like it is now vote for the incumbent if not vote for one of the other option. Things will not change if you don't vote for change.

You still have time to research candidates. Do not believe the mudslinging political ads. They take tiny little accusations and blow them up into giant balloons (it's kind of like middle school).

Overall it works out like this. Republicans want less government involvement in social programs so they can spend money on defense and independent contractors with the reduction of taxes for the upper 3 to 5% of the population. The argument being that if you give rich people tax cuts they are going to be so giddy about having that extra money that they'll hire a few more of we common folk, and put that money into circulation. The beauty of this theory is that there is no way to prove any of it so they depend on hearsay, and anecdotal stories from recipients who benefitted the most. Republicans operate like a regular guy with a new credit card. They'll spend beyond their means racking up trillions in deficits without a hint of conscience, (borrowing from Chinese banks by the way), then, when the citizenry say whoa and put others in office to bring down the deficit, their only option is to increase taxes, thus bringing out the republican chant "tax and spend democrats". The republicans also believe that if you regulate businesses you choke them, so most environmental causes are out the window. They by and large don't believe there is such a thing as global warming and have no problem sinking oil wells in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge (where there isn't enough oil for even ten years, by the way).

The democrats, on the other hand want a large number of social programs to assist the down and out of the US's poorer citizens, they want government to be responsible for getting kids proper health care, they want social services expansion to take care of those in the US who don't have another option. This, of course, opens the argument of a welfare state where the government takes care of everybody who isn't working and the "poor" folk who work and make a living have to foot the bill. The democrats by and large believe in budget surplus so that borrowing from banks controlled by foreign nations isn't compromising our security. The democrats historically have raised taxes, and have done so to help pay down deficits. The democrats lean towards tighter restrictions on businesses and push towards the working class as opposed to the owner class. The argument against a welfare state is that it doesn't press people to be responsible for themselves and allows them to lean on the government and of course, the people who pay taxes.

As far as the Iraqi war, there are members of all parties who support it and members of all parties who oppose it. I'll leave you with this...

Reagan and his cronies in the 80's went into Iraq and taught the Iraqi military how to stand against a much larger and more powerful force when they were at war with Iran. (Reagan, by the way, was once a democrat and the head of a powerful union, then lept the fence and embraced whatever group of ideas they offered when there was already a democrat running for governor of California...it was power quest, not an idealistic march). The Iraqis are now using the very tactics taught to them by your friendly neighborhood secret spy type oganization against the folks who taught them. Isn't it ironic? When a democratic president was scaling up in Vietnam, it became the battle cry of the republicans to end the war, and Nixon said, we have to have honor.....then he left....and South Vietnam fell, and poof. Now, we have the same scenario with opposite players, and poof. You figure it out.

Vote for whoever is going to benefit you the most. Welcome to the voting side of things.
