Rainy, and a bit on the cool side, but has a bit a morbid charm

My sister and I always say, "Even if it's cold and rainy, it's still Venice." I was there in March and it was cold and sunny. I imagine there are fewer travelers in Nov., but not sure. We had a good map from our hotel and just loved wandering about the streets. The street signs are high up on the side of the buildings. If you can go to Venice, go. Who cares what the weather or crowds are like, it is Venice! Star

My husband and I went to Venice just after Xmas a few years ago and it was much colder than the UK. It was snowing and everyone was wearing real fur so PETA obviously hasn't made it to Italy. Just be sure to get a really good street map as the streets are not always signposted and it is very easy to get lost esp when it's dark and the winter mist comes in.

It's like Canterbury.....I visited there once and also got lost in the mist going round in circle ending back at the same river restaurant 3 times hence my analogy.

Don't Know about November, but we wnt in January, and although it was cold, it was relatively quiet (NOTE: relatively!). Comment about street maps: just go with the attitude that you WILL get lost at some point, but it isn't that big, and you'll soon find yourself.

Nicest area: I really like the Dorso Duro around Peggy Guggenheim's Museum: a little oasis of calm.

Buon Viaggare!
