Door-to-Door. Ask people if they need anything doing. If you do the job well enough, you'll get recommendations for it which means more money. There are also papers you can post free advertisements in.

Work for youself - become a handy man/odd job man.
You'll get paid as soon as you've done the job so if you can find a local job or two you'll have enough for a full tank of petrol and a sandwich.
Stick a note in your local newsagent's window. I'm sure the work will come pooring in.
Oh, don't forget to tell the taxman - they don't like it when people work for cash.

Put up a garage sale & sell some of the tools. Get some petrol from the money. Ask for some advanced salary from your boss.

If you survived the process of pouring Nitro in to a car's fuel tank, you would probebly not survive an attempted start of said vehicle. And with a half a tank of gas (petrol), the fireball would be seen for miles! Let me know when you want to try this so I can watch it on the news!

maybe you'll have to cart your tools on the local bus for a few jobs, earn enough for more petrol and then take it from there.

You will never get out of this hole unless you get back to work. If you really wanted to you would find a way to make it to and from work until your first paycheck. You can always pawn something until payday, or have a garage sale. These seem to be excuses you are telling yourself prolonging unemployment.

Drive to the nearest business (construction, gas-mechanics) for whatever your tools are used for and ask for any contract work, i.e. work for a few hours, a day, a week.

talk to your friends and former work mates to find out about any local work. Even if its just for a few weeks.Try local sites and ask people as they come out if there is any work. Take a hard hat, boots and a high vis to get on site and ask round.

As an odd job man, try knocking on some doors locally and ask if they have any jobs that need doing. Good luck.
