Gripe water was a miracle for my son, he was exactly doing what your son...very gassy and crying all night long here is a link http://www.babys-bliss.com/ but I would consult a doctor first because I did not use this until he was about 6weeks old. It is natural with some licorice and ginger in it...which helps tummy problems.
It was a miracle for my son I know it can be really hard but it does get better.
Have a good one--Jammie

If you're breast-feeding, watch what YOU are eating (i.e: cabbage, beans, etc) b/c what you eat & gives you gas is what the baby eats & gives him gas too.
If feeding formula, ask your babies doctor what they may think.. I would say try to change formulas but that might create a stomach problem even further down the line.
For a quick remedy until able to get to doctor, check out the baby isle at Wal-Mart or even the pharmacy there. They have the best stuff for that & if asking the pharmacist on duty, they can give you a recommendation.

Mylicon drops are perfectly safe for even a newborn and can be given with every feeding if necessary. You can try using Dr. Brown's bottles (if you are bottle feeding), they work wonders! I have found that when my little girl is really gassy like that it helps to swaddle her pretty tight and hold her up against my should and rub her back.

Work his knees back and forth towards his abdomen. This should help him pass the gas. If this does not work, you might have to resort to giving him Mylicon.
Could he be constipated??? If he is getting formula that very well be why he is so uncomfortable. You might have to give my something like Colace Glycerin Suppositories for Infant/Child. You should not use these very often.
If he constipation is due to iron, either you need to modify your diet ( for the breast milk) or talk to the doctor about a low iron formula.

Mylecon drops!! And, if you are using formula, make his bottle about 30 minutes ahead of time and stir it with a little wisk or something to reduce the amount of bubbles in it. Then let it sit for a while so that the bubbles will be gone. I used to shake my sons bottle to mix it and he was really gassy so I started stiring it in a measuring cup instead so that I didn't have to shake it. It really helped his gas. Also, burp him every ounce or two and make sure he is kind of sitting up while eating. Also, if you are bottle feeding, make sure you are using a nipple suitable for his age. If not, if comes out too fast and they swallow air.

If you are breastfeeding, it could be something you are eating. In either case, dairy is the usual culprit. You can try gripe water, it is much better than mylicon and the like. Put a warm washcloth on his belly. Make sure you burp thoroughly.

Don't use medicine/drops unless you have to. Always try natural things first to see if they help before you try medicines.
Try laying him on his belly and help but his butt up towards the ceiling. For some reason, when babies are on their stomachs in this position it helps with gas.
Or, lay him on his back and gently pat his belly. The patting will help move the gas "bubbles" around and hopefully push them out.

Try wrapping him in a blanket in just his diaper with a warm washcloth on his belly. My first daughter had colic and this helped loosen up her belly and let the gas flow better. Also, make sure with your doctor that the formula (if he is formula fed) is agreeing with him. Good luck!
