What if I am doing nothing wrong?
What if I am good, just the way I am?
What if I can be loved 'because of' and not 'despite of'?
What if i am really fine, right now, and don't need to change?
What if I have nothing to apologize for?
What if I have nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about?
What if, I was and am doing good?
Then I would feel no anxiety...
Then I would not talk to you, cause you make me feel bad...
Then I would be relaxed and confident....
Then I would NOT believe that deep down, I am bad....
Then i would believe in myself and my purpose...
Then I would feel comfortable standing up for myself...
Then I would trust myself, no matter what...

No, you can gain self-confidence and start seeing what I see in this poem - a kind and misunderstood person.

It's unrealistic only in the sense that no human being can be perfect or above reproach. There is a danger in feeling so self-confident that you don't listen to others' opinions. Look at the Roman emperors who decided they were gods. Maturity is a balance between believing in yourself and your abilities and recognizing your own faults and weaknesses and learning to compensate for them and laugh at them. I'm all for a strong self-image as a goal. Just don't be afraid to talk to someone because they might disagree with you and make you feel bad.

its not a goal...its truth - for everyone
who ever decided that you werent 'fine', and 'need to change'?
no-one can tell you otherwise-
we've just been fed lies our whole lives, saying that we need to do things better, and that we're not perfect
thats why as kids we were happier, because we were who we were, before being told by our parents e.t.c HOW to be - we never cared if we hurt anyones feelings, and we didnt need to aplolgize until our parents told us to do so
even serial killers arent doing anything wrong, they are just human- well...thats my theory :P
"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"
<--- another poem thats speaks of perfection :)
hope you like it

this is a really good poem, however, what's up with line 9? Why would talking to me make you feel bad? I like this poem. Did that make you feel bad?

Self -actualization is a goal of many and to allow someone else to make you feel bad undermines this.
