I'm not having the contractions that I THOUGHT I was having last night (They were seriously very very intense pains along with my belly tightening about every 5-7 min....Around 6am, When I got up with my fiance before he went to work, They just kinda disappeared, And allowed me a couple hours of rest before I had to get up with my 18 month old)..Anyway...I'm having them off & on again, I haven't taken the time to 'time' them...And I'm also losing my 'plug', I've went to the restroom twice now, And upon wiping discovered a VERY slimy mess that's clear and kinda brown'ish..I'm also having like a constant cramping in my lower belly and back...Is this the first stage of labor?!? Is it too early to go to the hospital?!

I've already made arrangements w/ my parents to come and pick my 18 month old up this afternoon, Just in case...But if it's not close to being time, I'm going to call and have them wait....

Any advice?

Was also wondering...Will walking help 'speed' things up a bit??

I walked the halls of the hospital with my 2nd baby, And it seemed to take FOREVER...But I hadn't lost my plug yet (I was to be induced, but ended up having him on my own)...I started walking the halls around 9:30am, And walked them right up until a half hour before he was born...

Do I need to walk THAT much again?!

You could very likely be in early labor. Walking is good. So is sex. If it is truly labor, they will not slow down or stop again, even if you lay down. Take a shower, make sure your bags are ready, do some housework and cleaning. When the contractions get to where you can't do those things through them, go in. Good luck!

I've only had one other child and unfortunately, she didn't hurry the process along no matter what I tried to do. I had contractions anywhere from 4 mins to 11 mins, then 7 mins, then 9 mins that lasted 45-60 secs all day on Friday, all day on Saturday and finally had my daughter on Sunday. I think Saturday I must have walked 50 miles!!! I also had not lost my plug then either. My doctor said when I got steady contractions at 6 mins or less apart for an hour, it was time to head in. Check in with your doc and let them know what's happening and just tell them you don't want to go until you know its not a false alarm. Most times they would prefer you to hang out at home as long as safely possible. Keep the arrangements for your parents to pick up your child this afternoon because I think you'll be in the hospital by the end of the night. Good luck!

I have personally went to the hospital twice for false labor. My docs said if they are not consistanly every five minutes or less then DO NOT COME IN!! She seemed to have to stress that point a lot because I am hard headed! lol...But mine were coming 10 then 7 then 5 then 6...She said if they are anything but 5, 5, 5, 5 for an hour then dont come in. They didnt hesitate to send me home real quick. lol. Just sit down and time the contractions. Maybe put on a movie and time them the whole movie, then at the end see what they look like on the paper. Hope you go into labor soon, being overdue sucks!

I dont think that you need to go to the hospital just yet. I also have been having retarted contractions on and off. sometimes they are there really strong and painful and then they go away. this is my second child and i am 39 weeks 4 days. I have been losing mucus plug for weeks now, am 50% effaced as of halloween 3cm and baby is fully engaged. I have done everything and believe me for my body it just dont work. I dance, I walk, I do suats, have had sex, tried nipple stimulation which is weird, ate spicy food, everything and I dont think that this baby is ever going to com out. I have had bad backpain, period cramps etc. i do think that making arrangements is very wise though because you can never be to sure. Everyone says oh youll know when you are in labor but this is a false statement because labor starts when you first start dilating and effacing and some of us dont even know until we are already 3cm dilated such as myself. also they say that the contractions get longer and stronger and mine have for hours only to find out it went away which most people will then say that you are only having false contractions but this is not true either because false contractions do not dilate and thhin out your cervix. real labor does this. so I wouldnt go quite yet but i would keep those arrangements just incase. or if you havent been checked for dilation yet I would go just to see if these cramps and contractions you are experienceing are indeed working to get you to the next stage in labor.

maybe u should time them.. I know some docs prefer u to go to the hospital when they are less than 5 min apart.... Or maybe do what u think is best... if u feel like u need 2 call the doc and ask them than do that...

seriously from everything I have heard it sounds like you are going into real labor. You should get your parents to go ahead and watch your 18 month old and get yourself to the hospital. They may get you to start walking to get it happening. Good luck and hope that your delivery goes smoothly!
