I am going to be induced on wed. I will be 41 weeks and 3 days. I have been walking around for almost 2 months now at only 1cm dilated and fully effaced, but nothing is changing. They done and ultrasound and he is 8lbs and already head down. I have to go in at 1:00am that morning and they are going to put a gel on my cervix that is supposed to help me dilate and also give me some type of pill. Then they said that they want me to sleep for a couple of hours and then they will do the gel again in 3 hours and the pill in 4 hours. If I have dilated enough the doc. is going to break my water to help things along, and maybe start poticin. Has anyone else gone through this type of induction method? and how soon after they gave you the med. and gel did you start dilating and eventually go into labor? I hope that I will dilate and get things going because I dont want to have a c-section. Anyway, some advice and stories are welcomed. Thanks!

Every intervention increases your chance of a c-section. The gel, the pills, the whole deal. Epidurals as well and pitocin makes labor more painful so you are more likely to need an epidural.

I would have to know what kind of pill you are talking about, but if you are talking about cytotec you need to find another doctor and you need to do it today. Use of cytotec/misoprostol is very, very dangerous. The FDA has specifically warned doctors not to do it. That is not what the drug was approved for. (I know I sound like nut job now, but it is not safe)

Induction is not without it's risks and you need to know what these risks are (including c-section which has a tonne of risks in and of itself). It is important to know your Bishop's score. The lower it is the riskier induction is and the more chance it will fail.

You also need to consider whether or not your baby is showing signs of distress. 41w3d is considered average for a first baby in many parts of the world. You need to really weigh the risks of induction vs expectant waiting. And the accuracy of your due date to start with.

Your body knows how to have a healthy baby if you just leave it alone. It is never to late to change your mind or your health care provider and you have the ultimate ability and responsibility to make all medical decisions for you and your baby.

I didn't have a scheduled induction, but when I was 4 days over due at my check up, I had protein in my urine so I was admitted. At 6:00 that night they started the poticin, then at 6:00 the following morning, they came in and broke my water- Contractions started immediatley! Very painful-lol. I then got an epidural when I was 5 cm and then at around 6:00 that evening, I had the urge to push and at 6:45, my little bundle was born:) Good Luck! Currently 10 weeks pregnant with number two:) So Exciting!

I don't recall any gel but a pill was placed in my cervix. I went in at 8 am and I started having contractions about 6pm. I didn't get to the pushing stage until about 2:30am the next morning and then at 3:20am I had my son. There was another woman that came in at the same time to be induced and she moved along with me at the same times. She started pushing like 10 minutes before I did so I had to wait for the doctor to finish with her before I could push. I pushed longer because my son was so big 9.5 and the shape of my pelvis he kept getting stuck. If I had to be induced again I would. It was not that bad.

I was induced by this method 11yrs ago now. I had my first lot of gel applied at 10am, nothing seemed to be happening and i had another lot given at 7.00pm. The midwife broke my waters around 8.15pm I was only 9cm when my son was born at 8.48. I didnt have no painful contractions either. If you can bare the pain when your waters have been broken then you probably will be able to deliver without any pain relief. I managed to do this and felt wonderful after the birth. Good luck with your labour and congratulations on the future birth of your baby xx

Why don't they just induce you the normal way?? I was induced on 3/30/05 and had a healthy son it took me 12 hrs of labor. The doctor just broke my water and nature took its course. my son was 9lb 9oz I took pain medication in a iv and then i got a ephidural because the pain med wore off and slowed down my labor. When i went in for induction i was only dilated 1 also.

I started being induced at 8:30 a.m. on a Tuesday and delivered my son at 8:34 a.m. the following day. So the total time from start to delivery was 24 hours. I did not even start to feel labor pains until early evening and it got very painful around midnight and that is when I got my epidural. Good luck and try not to worry.

I went in to be induced @ 9pm and they did the gel too .
I went into labor @ around 2am but i ended up with a csection due to other things , not the induction. But you do what you have to , even if it means a csection . I didn't want one either but it saved us both.

i replaced into triggered with my daughter. My physician does no longer set off until eventually I had easily dilated to a minimum of 1cm. i do no longer understand if this is favourite practice or only him. i'm pregnant returned and at very almost 36 weeks now. on account that final time replaced into so painful (2 days of lively exertions and an hour and a 0.5 of pushing) with an epidural that did no longer artwork, i wouldn't in any respect in a million years enable them to set off returned. i wanted the epidural and that i try this time too, in spite of the undeniable fact that there is something like 20% or extra of females who chosen is and function the factor put in and it in no way works for them. So no longer basically might you be having seventy 5% extra painful contractions, you have no longer any alleviation. i does no longer advise being triggered until eventually you physician promises evidence that it somewhat is medically risky on your infant. My first one I asked for it and have been given what i wanted, yet they could no longer pay me to do it returned.
