the pump on the filter must of malfunctioned overnite and dont have enough time to fix it so is it ok for the suckerfish to go with out the filter being on and half of the water gone?

The filter takes out large chunks and agitates the water. It does not take out the dissolved Nitrates and that is why we do water changes. do you have an air pump? that will keep the water agitated. And why have you left half the water out? I would fill the tank back up to give him as much water as possible. and get that pump fixed fast. and tomorrow if you don't get the pump fixed, do another water change.

I agree with the other answers. They need to be treated as any other aquarium fish. They need heat, filtration, clean water, aeration. BTW, you didnt mention anything about the heater. Hope you are using one.

you need a filter algae eaters like plecos need pristine water they are stong fish but still need the water to be clean as possible
