Isn't it time to scrap the ID Card scheme?

The Government has admitted that the national identity database will NOT stop terrorism, benefit fraud or illegal immigration, and will increase identity fraud.

The database will cost you an extra £200 in costs and taxes, and will keep track of where and when it is checked (so every time you go to the doctors, access council services. even potentially when you buy alcohol or and 18 rated DVD).

I thought the national identity card was declared illegal after WWII when those crazy Germans tried it out. It does make it easier for fraud as well.
