There are two schools of thought but my tech support from Gateway said turn it off if you are gone 2 hours or more. I don't do that. I set it to hibernate at 2 hours. (In Control Panel, Power Options). However, as to lithium batteries they can 't be ruined by overcharging. I leave my computer plugged in several days at a time.

It's good to cycle the battery every week or so--let it run down to below 5% power, then recharge it. It'll make it last longer.

I agree with the above poster; I leave mine on, on AC, but set it to hibernate.

the answer is NO; NO; NO! I don't know what you want to say by "life span" of batteries but most of them last about three to four hours for each recharge. check your manual to learn more about your battery's life. And it's OK to leave your laptop connected to AC.
