Major in something you want to study. It doesn't matter what you study nor does it help or hurt you to major in something that is either different or same from typical law students. Having a political science major doesn't make you more desireable over other candidates. Bottom line, they only care about your LSAT score and GPA. If you do excellent, then they could care less if you are a music major or a criminal justice major. If you read reference books at the bookstore about getting into law school, you will see that what I'm telling you is correct. You need a kick-a** score and GPA. Good luck!

My fiance is in law school now and he majored in "Criminal Justice". You can also major in political science as well. Usually you don't need a law background to do well in law school (but knowing how to do certain things like write case briefs does help in your success). Also it depends on what kind of lawyer you want to be. If you want to be a lawyer associated with the medical field you can do a biomedical science major (what I did) and then go to law school--that way you'll be knowlegable about both subjects.

My brother is a lawyer and he majored in Psychology. I remember that he said that a lot of other students in his law school majored in English. Personally, I'd add Political Science although I think you might be able to major in anything. Getting into law school is all about your GPA and LSAT score. Good luck!

Political Science, History, English, Social Science, Sociology are all good choices for a pre-law degree. I wouldn't suggest Criminal Justice for a future lawyer myself.

I think Political Science is the standard, but any of the social sciences would be useful. These could include psychology, sociology, history, anthropology, etc. Most schools have pre-law programs. See if your school has one and set up a meeting with someone there. Also, if you can, get involved in a moot court group or some kind of debate group. Some school offer programs specifically in legal studies.

poltiical science (most pre laws major in this)
or
english (helps with your writing)
or
Criminology or sociology
it also depends on what type of lawyer you want to be. If you want to be in entertainment you might want to try business, PE or film or something.
The main thing is to major in something you enjoy, so you can get good grades. DO NOT!!!!! Major in pre law. Law schools feel that THEY will teach you what they you want to learn, and they like to see more well rounded candidates. A major in pre law almost never helps, often hurts. Take a few law classes at your university (if you go to a school that has a law school with it which i suggest) or some legal studies courses to supplement your major.
good luck

You can major in anything you want. Some of the popular majors among pre-law students are political science, history, government and English.
