What an immature and a ridiculous question! Seems you've had a very bad time and came across only narrow-minded people. But, don't forget India is not made up of only those few people. Stop generalising. It's a sign of lack of maturity.

Dude I'm a Indian and I'm not narrow minded. It all comes down to where you live and with what kind of people you mix. I'm not from India anyway.

many people in the world are narrow minded. but indians have their religions which they live by, and do the things their religion accpets, which is why they may SEEM narrow minded. but you cant just classify a group of people as narrow minded.

munna bhai, hi!

the easiest mistake to make is one of "generalization". it's like how all indians think americans are not loyal to their families and alsways have sex with others, that all europeans are divorcees, that vietnam is one giant slum, and that everyone in japan is incredibly rich...

none of these are necessarily true. it's just how the media portrays it to us, or our own skewed understanding of true facts. did you ever realize that whenever India is shown on CNN or BBC, they only show the slum, and the crowded and jammed streets of India. they show cows on the road, and human rickshaw pullers. they never show the westerners our new malls, our glorious high-rises, and the posh cars on our streets, and the beautiful residential layouts.

similarly, when you call Indians selfish, it's probably based on a one-sided view. look at the number of charitable workers in the country... did you know that India has the highest number of NGOs and the highest number of social workers in the entire world?

why do beggars thrive on indian streets/temples? that's because are generally charitable... we always give to poor people. it's in our blood. have you ever been to a village? you simply cannot imagine the care and the love they show on even strangers...

however, in the modern day, we're all caught up with our work and priorities. we don't always have the time for others. but this is a "human" trait, and not an Indian one! it's only human to want the best for ourselves...

it takes a deeper level of understanding to take the effort to help our fellow-humans.

my sincere suggestion: let the change start from you. you start helping others, and influence your friends. when they start doing the magic of helping people, their friends will learn from them.

let's not go watch lage raho munna bhai, appreciate the "gandhigiri" and then go home and stay the same... let's start practicing the things we liked...

munna bhai, i hope this helped... i'm sure you have a great heart too... just let's see it in action!

enjoy!

It is a complecated question which need an elaborate and comprehensive reply. however in a nutshell we can say that it is not mere narrow but a sort of discipline and regard to ancient culture and tradition which uphold the right and honour of all living being on the earth for their peaceful existence with due liberty besides honouring the purity and virginity of one"s mind, body and soul and the basics of economy WASTE NOT WANT NOT and always dutiboud with dharmic princples KARMA PHAL - as you sow so you reap.

Look if you are told to cross a forest , full of wild animals. You will be very very careful, alerts and your full attention will be on the way you have to walk. You will try to move quickly, you wont think any thing else except your plan or way ~ so that you are out the area. Surely you were very narrow mined during that period.

Lots of people are what is considered are narrow minded.

It is 50% because of the up bringing.

Other 50% is in them.

No one considers them self as narrow minded it the other people who label them for various reasons.

It is a conceived and perceived thing.
