I had my uterus removed 4 years ago and have now become overweight. I did not have a weight problem before. I have dieted and excercised but nothing seems o help. Could someone help me understand why I have gained weight and how to loose it when diet excercise has not helped?

Doctors (male ones that is) say that hysterectomy doesn't cause weight gain, but just about every woman I know who has had a full or partial hysterectomy says the same thing!!

For me, I had to address the need for the hyster in the first place. My underlying condition is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which is an endocrine disorder and includes an inability to metabolize carbohydrates. So for me, that contributed to the weight gain I had after my partial hyster.

I don't know if it's related to the hormone differences or what it is, but it certainly seems like a lot of us have the same problem!

I have found this hysterectomy support site to be very helpful: http://www.hystersisters.com/
