ewww i would give the boat on the canal a miss unless you like to dine with rats.
It depends what you are after as there is a variety.
There is a french place called cafe rouge, pizza express or an italian up by the banks in the high street called Gerrados on the square which is very yummy. Or there is a Tapas bar round by argos in the high street but i didn't like it there.
For something more up market there is the waterfront restaurant which has a good menu plus an a la carte menu.
Hope you have a good meal.
And for all you who don't know chelmsford is in essex.

Pizza Express is really nice, and the seating upstairs was nice and quiet. I really miss it now I'm not at uni up there!
