I'm entering into a civil partnership later this year. I own my own property which is solely in my name and my partner will be moving in and paying me a weekly rent. In the event of the partnership being dissolved in the future would my partner be entitled to a share of the property?

I would seriously consider seeing a solicitor and getting the equivalent of a pre-nuptual agreement just to be on the safe side.

yes of course they would, a civil partnership is the same as a marriage,

but if you are worried about giving up half of your property then wait a bit longer until you are sure your partner wants you and not your cash

Yes they would, any couple living together after 6 months are entitled to half of the assets. I would get a pre-nup, then at least you know your own assets that you had prior to the relationship are yours and if the other persons agrees at least you know they are not after your assets!!! Good Luck!

speak with a lawyer in your state to establish some estate planning that will protect your assets. At the very least something like a prenuptial agreement is in order.

Maybe you should draw up some paperwork that specifically states that your partner will not gain rights to your property.

well she is as she will be paying the majority of the bills and it will effect your future relationship if you don't give your present relationship something as they have given you part of the bills and it may shown how much they love you

If you live as man and wife, it doesn't matter whether you're married or not. The law is the same.
