( in Canada) They will start a claim on your behalf and investigate and should you need a lawyer they can provide one for you as well (not sure if its free or a nominal fee) but talk to them first they really are there to help employees. also get all your pay stubs in order and your record of employment they will need to see them and any witnesses you might have. If they decide in your favour they will come after your employer for unpaid wages, holiday pay severance pay etc. they can garnish the accounts for you once you get the labour board involved im sure you employer will come to their senses and pay up. Send in writing to your employer a formal request for all sums owed to you keep a copy for yourself date it make sure you give that to your case worker as well. g/l

Would it be fair to give a woman the 'choice' between staying with the company until the day she gives birth and coming back the day after OR going home for 4-6 weeks without money? No secure maternity leave means that women either have to suffer to keep a job or accept the possibility of losing a job for being pregnant. Lioness, supply and demand is good for objects/goods/services and expressly bad for humans and human relations. That mentality has lead to spurious healthcare systems, low-pay and poor work practices. It is the ideology of the young, rich and the lucky. [edit] Always expect a TD or three. People want the world to be a nightmare, a dog's world, but I won't assent. The problem people in the US have is a distorted idea of the word 'choice'. Lioness, when you say a woman can 'choose' or has the 'freedom' to choose between unfair alternatives, you limit the meaning of those words. Weighted choices are never real choices, they are a 'beggers can't be choosers' scenario. All the time I am working towards a change of government policy and economic-driven politics.

First, your employer owes you severance pay. It is calculated by the amount of years you have worked for the company. Second, contact the Labour Board. They will legally force him to pay you what he owes you. Can you prove discrimination? If so, then proceed with a lawsuit; if not, then just leave it alone.

If you have proof, get a lawyer and sue for wrongful termination. The issue is that your employer may have a lot more money and resources to spend than you and could tie things up in court. If you're willing to fight you could end up with at least an out-of-court settlement, particularly if you have some proof other than your word against theirs.

You have two choices:
1) Realize you might have screwed up and get another job someplace else
-or-
2) Go back and machine-gun the place
Please realize there may be consequences to your actions. But the publicity will be great, as long as you time it right. I'd suggest Thursday, because the news weenies will speculate you were depressed over the election results.

You must find out if your state has "At Will Employment". They have it here in Vermont. You can quit your job without notice at any time, and they can discharge you from employment at any time for no reason. About the only thing you could ask for is unused vacation time.

Depends are where you live and the laws they have there. Every state has different laws regarding termonation. File for unemployment and in you have proof maybe hire an attorney, depending on the type of discrimination

Depends on your state, and the details of what happened, but the true details as seen by an outsider. Not what you or your boss felt, remember there are 3 sides to every story.
Some states though, such as GA are at will, and you can be fired for any or no reason at all.
