I keep hearing 'Money can't buy happiness', usually from people who haven't got any. In my experience, no you can't buy happiness, but having money sure does help. To be able to buy things you need (like food or a home) gives a sense of well being and safety.
What does money give to you?

Money doesn't buy happiness, but at least you can be miserable in comfort.

GREAT question, thanks for asking!

Wealth buys freedom from some worries - food, shelter and healthcare for example.

Many studies show wealth does not buy significant increases in happiness. Wealthy, financially successful people are not significantly happier than the rest of us. If they say they are happy more often, it's because of their success culture.

Anyone and everyone can choose to pursue the actions and attitudes that lead to a happy, spiritually successful live.

Being Guided by Goodness, Fueling our Lives and our Work with Fun, trying to Touch Each Person We Meet With A Positive Spirit all lead to happier, more fulfilling lives.

So does Avoiding the Fault Finding Feel Goods, Seeing Obstacles Not Problems, Making Decisions Not Judgments and learning how to Profit From Our Mistakes.

We can choose to adopt Happiness habits that make our lives happier.

Thanks for your excellent question that makes us think about and examine our beliefs about happiness!

Money gives me alot of things. Without it, nothing would be possible. Give a homeless man a 100 dollar bill and he would be the happiest man in the world, take a 100 dollars away from him and he will be the unhappiest. Its simple, money does make us happy.. however, we are not alone in this world and everyone deserves to be happy, so live your life with your arms wide open. If you have more then you need.. share it. Not only will you be someone that has money and is happy, but you will make someone that doesnt have money happy also. :)

Yea thats is the dumbest saying I've ever heard.

Example: Let's say I had the money to buy a new car. So I go and buy a new Mustang GT. I'm awfully happy about my new purchase.

Money = Car
Car = Happiness :)
Money = Happiness :)
(cause if it wasn't for the money, I wouldn't have the car)

It's true that under a certain level of material comfort, it's very difficult to be happy. If you're constantly scurrying to put food on the table, or that you're worried about whether you'll have a place to sleep next week, it's hard for anyone to be happy within those conditions.
However, money, in and of itself, will not bring you happiness. Humans are too complex for that. We need a sense of accomplishment. We need a sense of belonging. We need to feel loved and appreciated. We need to feel our existence has meaning. We need to feel we are acceptable people. We have spiritual needs, etc, etc...
So I would say a minimal amount of money, or material goods, is necessary to achieve happiness, but in and of itself, money won't bring you happiness.

Security and the ability to help change the lives of others. That old saying may have been true in a different age and for certain circumstances now, but generally - money brings protection, health care and peace of mind.

I know someone who won £256,000 on the lottery in a snydicate at work, shortly after his girlfriend left him and aborted his child. Everyone was asking him when the baby's due. He cracked up and was taken to hospital after destroying his head and hands against the wall. Does money buy happiness, who knows?

Money can't buy me (or you) love!
And, no, money can't buy happiness.

Money brings suffering -- whether you have too much or too little, it's all about that damned pursuit of money -- that's where the suffering is.

Why do we suffer in this life? Because we crave and desire all these things - so many things that we think money will provide.
