I'm a college graduate and I can't find a job. Even minimum wage jobs haven't even considered giving me an interview. I really need to make some money. Is the military a good idea?

I not see anything wrong with the Military. If, you have a degree you may be able to enter as an officer also, which would mean better pay. You could advance your studies while in taking maybe one college course a semester. Stay for 20 years you can retire and have time to start another career. I tell my friends, do not go in as a Tank Driver, there other jobs to consider.

Being a colledge graduate, you would have the opportunity to become an officer at some point. The majority of people who join the military don't do it because they can't find work. ( according to John Kerry, you must not have studied hard enough, LOL) The reason the minimum wage jobs won't hire you is they know that with a degree, you'll leave at the first higher paying offer you get. Look at re- working your resume to a particular job you're applying for. If you have no work history, it'll be difficult to get that first job. Just keep trying. If you don't hear back from where you applied, call them. This makes them think you really are interested in the position.

Dear Dude 1988:
If you're having difficulty finding adequate employment in civilian life, the Military may be a very viable alternative for you. Assuming you're around (or less than) 25 years of age, with your college (university?) degree, you can enter the service (Army) with the understanding that you want to go to OCS (Officer's Candidate School). At the time of your enlistment, you make a contract with the recruiting officer (or Non-Commissioned officer) for exactly what you want. If you spend just 20 years in the military, and not screw up, you can retire as probably a Captain or (possibly) Major. The retirement benefits are great and at the age of 45, you're still young enough to work in some chosen profession. Check out all the branches of the service and decide what appeals to you the most. An excellent question and I wish you the absolute best in your choice.

College Graduate?! Join the military! Become a commisioned officer and make as much as a staff sergeant! It normally takes 4-5 promotions and a special school to get that, but with at least 60 college credits, you only have to go to training. If you do however get about 4-5 promotions in your carrer as an officer, you'll get calls FROM fortune 500 companies wanting to hire YOU! It's not that hard being an officer TRUST me. Everytime you walk into a room, you get salutes, you have to get called SIR (or Ma'am), and better yet, join your state's National Guard and do it part time! The Military is a great idea! E-mail me with more questions or information.

have you tried any temp agencies or staffing agencies in your area that can place you in some type of job that will at least give you some income and give you real work experience in your field

if your field is just not hiring in your area i would consider moving or being open to working in a different field. look for any general management positions like even managing a Taco Bell gives you management experience and looks good on your resume.

joining the military is a huge committment and depending how you feel about ware you will probably end up in IRAQ for awhile or maybe afganistan. you will also do a minimum of 4 years if you join and you have to do what they tell you.

As much as I respect our armed forces, the current political climate is not a good one to be on active service. The troops are overstretched and underequiped. Our PM has lost grip of the situation and will do whatever GWB says. Does the thought of serving in the Middle East not seem a daunting one? The army is not all snowboarding, paintball, then back to the base for bangers'n'mash, you know.
