People used to say that about rock back in the day. And we know that not all rock was a bad influence. It's the same with rap. Many of the ones with the bad lyrics get more attention because that's what sells. Some have very good messages and is just a step up from spoken word. I am VERY particular about the rap that I listen to (although I'm an R&B junky) because I don't care to hear any genre of music that demeans a race, gender, and allows me to be embarrassed if kids are in the room listening.

Well, I'm an old woman, so all I can say is: I don't understand about half the words, but I like the beat! The rhythm is usually really good.

You are listening to the wrong kind of rap, then. There is a talent there that few possess. I cannot do it, so I do not mock it.

I don't like it because it's not musical. Rap is all about the words.
