I think that in order for us to make this world a better place than what we found it, we (human beings) must transform into organic intellectuals.
What this implies is that we must constantly engage in questioning the fundamental law and precepts of our goverment with rationality. Not only our own governmnent, but wherever social injustice, environmental issues, Oppression, Racism, and anything that serves to destroy natural growth and evolution rears it's ugly head, we should be there to challenge it with our rational minds.

We must instill in our off spring the value of life and through each generation the concept of honoring that which we live on, the planet. To teach our young that hate is not an end to all the problems the world has, and be so very sure that we are not teaching our children to hate.
If we teach them to love, to accept that which is different, and honor the Earth as they do their own selves, they in turn will teach their children even a higher concept of love, honor and acceptance, and through that generation and to forever we will evolve into better humans and thus a better place for all mankind.
It is in the children that we can predict the future. For they carry the keys, make sure those keys are the correct ones.

Well religion is holding humans back. You gave an example of the Holocaust, which was done because of religious beliefs. Almost all war has started due to religion. If you look at the countries in the Middle East that are Muslim, they are so far behind technologically because they waste so much time on there religion. Basically, in order for the world to become a more advanced and better place, there has to be no religion.

hmm. let me think, in evolving physically we will have no positive efffect on the planet, in fact, ashumans we would probably think it wise to destroy it in order to save it. We are only enriching out lives at the moment and evolution can be seen as a means to do so. Mentally we are evolving simultaneously to living. New experiences effect our interpretations of things. So nobody can really control this without a very good arguement. That probably doesnt answer your question but now i feel clever,

What is the purpose of evolution ?
If we know the purpose of evolution then it may be easier to find the answer to your query.
In God's presence, with God as a witness, with the will of God entire evolution is taking place.
God's evolution is also taking place in individuals.
They are all evolving or growing towards >
wisdom, happiness, immortality, truth, peace, freedom etc.
Why do individuals grow towards these infinitely good qualities ?
Because God is slowly pulling each one of us towards him.
We are made in God's image and when we know God, realize God we have reached him.
Then there is eternal happiness, wisdom, immortality since you know God and that itself makes these things possible,
since you know yourself, your true nature which is all the above.
The evolution has a purpose.
To awaken every soul gradually to thier real self.
Now with this understanding it will be easy to answer your question.
What happens when one evolves to be getting ever nearer to God ?
One develop's all the good qualities that God upholds
like for example -
Honesty, truthfulness, non violence, compassion, caring,
intelligent intellect, undeceivable approach and skills, able to protect oneself and one's people and belongings,
mercy, love, perseverence, patience, consistency etc. well the list is long.
One slowly starts living these qualities without much efforts by God's will itself when one progresses (evolves) towards God.
His or her bad qualites get reduced and slowly wiped out.
Now the person not only becomes a good individual from which the world benefits but also the world gets the following benefits from such an individual :
2. good role model for others to take example and become better persons
3. through his or her compassion and help a lot of people benefit,
they start following the right path and abandon what is wrong
4. His deeds help the suffering souls of the world
5. Vibrations from this person makes the world and environment ever refined and purified with everlasting effects. This has kind and good effect on all souls. They are pulled towards being "good" and away from becoming "bad".
This list is also long,
So evolve towards the truth (or whatever one chooses to call it like "Brhaman" or God or Nothing) with the true search and as you go ahead in your path you will keep making this world a better place.
It is a continuous process that continuously makes the world a better and better place.

It is a straggle between BAD and GOOD inside every person on daily basis. If everyone would try to be a better person at least one more time a day , the world would be a better place.

I think that we need to listen to each other and not judge ,because we are doing more harm in this world than good. We need to understand that we are all different, and we come from different places in the world. We need to appreciate what we have and not take it for granted. Those of us that have, want more and those that do not have are happy just to be alive, we need to be more giving and stop wanting more than what we really need.

We need to let go of our reptilian past, in particular the primitive limbic system where our raw emotions and irrational beliefs in religion spring forth. We need to put more emphasis on the more recently developed cerebral cortex, the logical and rational portions of our brains. It's taken 100,000 years to get this far with the cerebral cortex, which put us ahead of some of the lower life forms, but we still have a ways to go.

We need to look back to our ancestors and live with honor, respect and loyalty. We need to learn to take only that which we need to live and give back as much as we can. We need to honor our elders and teach our children to respect people and the planet. We need to stop basing our worth on material goods and strive to be better human beings. It's true that the human race is a virus to planet Earth........ the Earth can survive without us and if humans were to disappear the Earth could heal herself. Man did not inherit the Earth.... he is just borrowing it from his children!!!
