If so, do you feel like they sucked up your energy and then you don't feel good afterwards?
Tell me your stories.

people who suck up your energy are called "energy vampires". There's a book about it too.
I'm thinking of learning to protectmyself so any negative that's coming at me, will be bounced back to it's source so I won't get affected.

My husband is the most negative person I know. If one of the children do well on a test, a report card, or complete their chores without being reminded he ignores them, but the very second that one forgets to empty the garbage, comes home late, etc. then he is all over them. He focuses all of his attention on what goes wrong instead on what goes right. He works and conives to avoid what might go wrong instead of working to make something go right.
He wears me out. I mean, I am so tired after talking to him that I just want to go to bed and forget his existence.

I live with one..Everyday all day he finds something to say or be negative about, His Father was the same way. I've told him repeatedly I don't find him very attractive when he's like that, he'll say ok i'll try and not do it. The next breathe he's at it again.. I try and say positive things and I'm always looking for the good in everyone he's the complete opposite.. I go to bed early every night, just to get away from it. ( although he's not negative towards me, just other things and people) I guess thats a blessing in disguise....HAVE A HAPPY DAY !!!

Yeah but I'm sure I'm that negative person sometimes. (But when feeling negative I try to keep away from others to spare them.)
You just feel like you want to make them happier but nothing you do or say makes any difference and it's exhausting. Especially if, if the grand scheme of things, the stuff that is getting them down is the same sort of stuff that everyone in the world deals with. And you want to grab them and say "get over it, it's part of life, move on..."
I usually need a break from that person if it keeps happening on a regular basis.

Yes, I had several people draining me of all my engery, one friend in particular. I asked her to back off, and she she wouldn't. So I just stopped calling her and stopped returning phone calls. If I'd see her out, I'd say hello and politely excuse myself so I wouldn't get sucked in. I felt guilty about it at first, because I didn't want to hurt her feelings.
But then it dawned on me that it wasn't my responsibility to make her be a happy positive person, and she wasn't considering my feelings by her total disregard of most things I said. She eventually got the message, and I didn't have to get ugly with her. It inspired me to cut off the rest of the dead weight hanging around my neck.
I feel so much better now. Whew!

YES! i know everybody has bad days, but come on people. there is a girl at my work who walks in everyday with "I'm soo sore,I'm soo tired. My head hurts. This job is soo stupid. It's sooo cold outside. "
you get the point. i don't really like working everyday either, but that's why we get paid to go to work. i walk in in a decent mood, then i see her and she immediately starts whining and bitchin' and it really wears on me. sometimes i lose it and remind her there are other jobs, she could just quit(I wish). then she starts complaining about other jobs she's had. aagggg!
negative people really do drain my energy. sometimes i get sucked in and makes your day that much worse if all you do is point out every little thing you hate.

My husband and my sister have a way of draining all the happiness from those around them.. I work hard to be a good person and sometimes it feels like a losing battle. Maybe someday I will not have to see either one again. Stay happy fellow and don't worry

I can relate, totally. It is hard to have family or friends who every time I try to do something are negative. Yes, there are downsides to everything, but why must they always see only the downside? It makes me feel like locking myself away and making my own decisions and mistakes without the constant running dialog of verbal attacks.

Of course. Negativity is like a cancer and once you sense it you need to get away from it. It is almost 2007 and if people old and new dont mean you any good then you need to let them go.
