Perhaps your data on your memory card is corrupt. (happened to me recently, had to buy new cards).

Personally, I leave my memory card in my PS2. The only time I take it out is when I am moving the machine itself and am putting it in my backpack.

Take any disc you have in your PS2 out, and put the memory card in. Start the machine, and go to your memory card and look at the files. Check each one and make sure you don't have any corrupt files. If all looks good, leave the memory card in, shut the machine down, insert the game you want to play, and turn the machine on again. If your having the same trouble, speak with Sony and see if they have any options, or get a new card, as the one you have might just be broken (how old is that card?)

No, regrettably ps2 is distinctive sufficient from the unique that it will no longer be supported on the unique shape. you may theoretically play PS1 video games on a PS2, yet i've got had difficulty with saving them on a PS2 reminiscence card.
