Absolutly. Making it illegal wastes tax dollars and ruins people's lives who have not engaged in any sort of violent crime. Instead, they have done something very similar to drinking or smoking cigarettes, and because they have, they now face jail time, huge fines and criminal records. It should, at the very least, be decriminalized, as the punishment would be rehab or something. But absolutly, legalization will put drug dealers out of business (similar to the way the end of prohibition ended the mobster culture). It would bring in more revenue, it could be regulated (and kid can tell you its easier to get pot than beer, as they don't have to show their ID to dealers), and it would free up our police to search out and get violent criminals more effectivly.

Yes, if for no other reason than it would lessen the overpopulation in American prisons. If not legalized, the decriminalization would be incredibly beneficial to the overworked legal and prison system.
Not to mention the possible economic and health benefits.
Furthermore, it should be decriminalized because it is a law that has very little validity. Just like prohibition, a great deal of people defy this law every day. That lessens the validity of this law.
Overall, a lot of otherwise innocent people are in jail for something totally innocuous. It would be a good thing to let those people out and keep the bad guys in.

Haven't we already settled this question? Yes, if it were legalized and sold in smoke shops like tobacco and liquor, the United States could reap an enormous benefit in taxes, plus eliminate the need for a black market, do away with numerous legal cases pending and future for marijuana use and free up the court system for more serious offenders. Makes sense to me and has since the 1960's.

It should at least be decriminalized if not legalized. And the legalization should be similar to what they do in the Netherlands. And, of course there should be some controls and of course taxed.
People who want to get high will find a way to do it.
Cannibus plants make great paper, ropes and all sorts of other things-- supposedly the constituion or the declaration of independence (can't remember which) was writtien on paper made from a cannibus plant.

Absolutely. Keeping in mind that I don't indulge, consider this: Instead of spending billions of dollars every year trying to stop something that will NEVER be stopped, why not let farmers MAKE money growing crops, workers MAKE money processing it into cigarettes, wholesalers MAKE money marketing it, retailers MAKE money selling it, and our local and federal government MAKES money taxing it. If those are not enough reasons then also consider this: given a choice, would you rather share the road with the drunk who while driving 80mph thinks he is doing 30 or the stoner while driving 30 thinks he is driving 80? All things considered, I think it should be legalized.

Yes. All that is caused by it being illegal is huge drug cartels make a lot of money and hurt a lot of people. Making marijuana legal, would put a lot of these thugs out of business. Besides, there's this whole personal liberty concept that our country was supposed to be formed on.

I have a friend in the drug enforcement agency, and he will tell you that we are losing that war more than the government and media will acknowledge. Legalize it and then tax the hell out of it. People high on marijuana don't do anything besides sitting on the couch all day anyway. Let them waste away. Better they sit on the couch and do nothing than be out there trying to reproduce. Lets let Social Darwinism weed out the unfit.

Of course, especially if you are just talking about using it for health benefits. Additionally, I think it could be a huge economic benefit to the country - we could slap a big ol' tax on it. If they have the proper restrictions/laws and enforcement, then it could work. On the other hand, I would hate to see more pot heads walking around and that would inevitably happen (nothing against pot heads).

I am considered liberal on some big issues, but for me this is not one of them. The reason is because if people started smoking it out in the open, second hand fumes could be breathed anywhere.
While I believe it is your choice if you want to smoke it, it is not kind to others who don't want to- to have to breathe the fumes and get high from 2nd hand fumes, children included. While some people love it, others don't like its affects. Keep it an underground culture- isn't it more "fun" that way?

it should be by Rx everywhere. and for certain religious ceremony if can be shown it is traditional..
but the product needs to be controlled lots is genetically engineered and too powerful and some on the street is treated with god knows what.
and there are long term use negative effects on the brain many don't know about..
we don't need any more drugs and substance abuse around. so i believe it would be foolish to legalize it in general.

All drugs should be legalized and placed under government licensed retail establishments with a controlled price, access to disintoxication and help for addicts wanting to clean up financed by former police repressive funds and mega penalties introduced for counterfeit sales like with any other customs issue. why?.. no more drug financed terrorism of crime syndicate power.. Stop the hypocrisy. If u choose to continue to kill yourself with alcohol and cigarettes, other drugs are no worse.
