try blins (pancakes) - very good are made in Manezh- not far from Red Square (metro station - Okhotnyi Ryad), there you can also try kvas - great russian drink (non-alcoholic), some porridge, dumplings (pelmeni) - Siberian dish of small pockets of dough filled with seasoned, minced beef, lamb, or pork and served boiled, fried, or in a soup
don't go to Mu-Mu, I know a lot of people who hate this place

In Moscow/St Petersburg, just try somewhere that looks nice. I agree the Chinaya Lozhka cafes are nice. Another nice cafe is Shokoldnitsa (good cakes and tea). Avoid a chain called Yolki-Polki unless you are starving. It's generic Russian food but not very well done.
Soup solyanka is my favourite Russian dish.

Hello,
In Moscow there is a food district close to the red square, that Has many typical Russian dishes. Try the Mu-Mu Cafe
In my oppinion You should try Adjika.
It is a very spicy tomato sauce with garlic. Traditional sauce to grilled meat or poultry.
Hope my first answer Is OK...
