OK there are 3 things you need in order to start.
1. Gas getting into the chamber: undo a plug and turn over the engine. If you smell gas you have gas. (don't forget to unplug the plug!)
2. Spark. You said you had it. Did you observe it?
3. Compression. Get your hands on a compression tester and screw it into the spark plug hole. It needs to be a minimum of 80 psi. If much lower then you have a larger issue.

OK I lied there is another thing to check.
You need spark at the right time. If you goofed on the plug wiring you could be firing out of order and that will stop you. Get a manual and make sure you have the right order.
Also get a timing gun and check your timing. If it is off enough you will need to turn your distributer to correct it.

If, when cranking, it sounds differently, and acts like it has a slight loss of compression, the timing chain cam sprocket has PROBABLY lost the plastic silencer coating, allowing the chain to slip one or more teeth. Now the camshaft is running late.
Perform a compression test. Low and uneven compression readings is a strong indicator that it has "jumped time".

Good Luck
