The problem is this: -(10-7x)
My first inclination was -70x but I believe that's wrong. Can anyone help?

Your first inclination is wrong, therefore, your belief is correct.
You need to figure for x.
Do this: execute the equation if x = 1, then 2, then 3, etc. You will start to see a pattern, at which point you should be able to rephrase the equation. (It's actually pretty simple - you will see).

The negative sign outside the parenthesis means to multiply everything inside by -1. You can't combine the 10 and the -7x because they are not like terms. So the answer is -10+7x.

As far as I can remember a minus before the bracket changes the signs within the brackets, therefore = 10+7x, therefore x=10/7=1.428

doesnt -(10-7x) sugest 0-(10-7x) which would mean if u times 0 by everything in the bracket you would get zero correct me if im wrong

7x-10 coz -(10-7x) becomes -10--7x...i.e.-10+7x (2 -ves make a plus) and -10+7x can also be written as 7x-10...

u can not combine the numbers in the () so that's what u do.
- times 10
then - times -7x
the answer is -10+7x

7x=10
x=7/10
