One of Stephen King's more profound Novels is Different Seasons, which is really a book composed of four other novels: Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body, and the Breathing method.
My personal favorite was the breathing method, the story of a woman's miraculous will to conquer the grief and loss that accompanies death.

Personally, the classic novels would be Carrie, The Shinning and Shawshank Redemption. Mr. King has a large library of works, I actually have most of them and have read them... If you want something with a little meat, try The Stand (both version, unabridged and abridged), or The Dark Tower Series.
