It's best to chose a gynecologist who you are comfortable with and who is well trained and has good skills, both diagnostic and personal. It's an uncomfortable situation even when it's a routine exam, so you need someone who can help you relax, who is considerate and can minimize the stress of the exam. For a lot of women (including me) that means a female gynecologist, but if I needed specialized care of some kind and a male gyno was the best in the field, I would not hesitate to go to him.

For you, it really depends on your own comfort level.

It's all up to you. Neither is better than the other, but I prefer female. Only because I watched the movie "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle", and it made me terrified that if I ever went to a male, than how would I know if he ws doing his job, or taking it too far? I know that males must have a female nurse in the room at the same time, but that would be even more uncomfortable to me!

I believe that with which ever one you feel comfortable. Ive been to two and they have both been female. They are great because a female themselves they might have more personal experience and may know what is going on rather than a male dr. Good luck with your choice.

I always try to see a female, why? because I know that being a female herself, she knows how things feel, aches, pains, etc. A male just cannot possible understand as a woman would.

I had a male gyno untill he moved. He was the nicest guy and i trusted him. I Have a female now it took me awhile to get use to her. But now i trust her she is handling my 1st pregnany. I guess its all up to the person.

I think it's just a matter of preference. I saw a female OBGYN for several years then she left the practice and I started seeing the male in the practice. I am just as happy with him and he did a fantastic job with my recent pregnancy and c-section.

Doesn't matter, it depends on who you are comfortable with. I've had male and female in the past. The males seemed more patience and more involved, I guess cuz they will never experience what we go through they are more sympathetic.

It depends on your personal preference. Mine is female and she's great. (I feel she can relate to me and any issues I might have.) Some males can be insensitive to period woes because they don't experience them. (My friend's OB-GYN told her, while she was in hard labor - after being in labor for 50 hours already, "To suck it up, women have been doing this for years." I'm surprised she didn't throw something at him.)

I view it this way - my doctors don't have to be my best friend, they just have to know what they're doing and not make me feel like a jerk when I come in to see them.

I vote for a Midwife instead of an OBGYN.
They spend much more time with you and get to know you and your family and what you want. They spend more time answering your questions and making sure you understand stuff. You'll feel more like a client and less like a number with a midwife.
