Honestly I think that gays are unacceptable to the majority of South Africans. I know it is not politically correct to say so but quietly males amd females distance themselves from that part of Society. Although the Proud South Africans have a problem with the CESA site there have been a number of postings over the past few days concerning Pieter (aka Rianne) Boshoff linking him as the Editor of a Gay Site in Holland "educating" boys under 18 and also to known paedophiles in SA. He is the originator of the realsouthafrica. site and these revelations will discredit him in the eyes of many. It also raises questions about the 17 year old answerer on this site who is linked to Boshoff. It is all a bit closet stuff (like racism) where the public statements differ some what from reality but the jokes about moffies, bum chums and SAA stewards still fly around.
Malan- And Boshoff's claim about having a wife and two children? Is he the Editor of a Gay Site in Holland for boys under 18? And the evidence on the site from contributors that Boshoff is indeed gay? What is your interest?

I live and work openly as a Gay man in South Africa. I am sure that there are many people that do not approve of my luifestyle, but fortunately the law protects me from unfair discrimination, so since 1994 life has been great for me.

I live in Durban, where I elieve we have the greatest degree of racial integration. I believe this tolerance towards different races also translates towards tolerance of different lifestyles, and the city generally has no problems with gays. We do not have the number of gay facilities like Cape Town, but life is great.

I believe discrimination is still rife in traditional communities and smaller towns and villages (Immaterial of race or colour).

Public or private opinion? Popular opinion in the media at the moment is gay is okay. Cool to give that opinion it's space, as long as those who are of the opinion gay is not okay, are also granted the public right to voice their opinion. It's called freedom of speech.
You won't get a reliable answer to your question, because people won't publicly go against the public opinion of the day unless they don't care to be labelled.
We label every person who writes answers here. If someone writes "I'm pro-gay" they will be labeled as speaking feminine, having their hair coloured, hanging out in jazz clubs and fashion boutiques and drinking expensive cocktails. If someone writes "I'm anti-gay", they will be labeled as beer-in-the-hand rugby-watching boere, from the countryside (see some answers above), conservative and overly religeous.
So why do you ask this question? Are you, in your mind, willing to give all respondants full freedom of speech without labelling them? And are all others who read the opinions on the internet willing to do the same?...You know you won't get good stats from a question like this.

as a protracted way because of the fact the "Christian" religions are in contact, you may think of they could be adverse to homosexuality because of the fact the Bible condemns it in the time of. yet that may no longer the case. further and extra church homes are taking a greater liberal view in direction of the gay existence sort. Now, a lot of those church homes the two tolerate gays or maybe settle for them into their ranks. some church homes even decide on gays into positions of oversight of their congregations. monks additionally try to have rules that restrict comparable-intercourse marriages overturned. no count number what someone's vices are, there is often some church which will settle for them.

Alf, Boshoff denied the allegations. Maybe there are two Pieter Boshoff's in this world? There are many made-up stories on CESA - There's a very good chance that that is one of them. CESA eg say that they allow freedom of speech, yet i've been banned from the site 4 times trying to post a comment.

This was Boshoff's reaction:

"Pieter Boshoff, the managing director of Boscor Internet Solutions and Founder of http://www.realsouthafrica.co.za, has been made aware of defamatory remarks and statements against his company and himself personally that have been posted on the CESA website.

We would like to to place on record that he denies the allegations, inter alia regarding his alleged involvement with pornographic websites based in the Netherlands.

Legal recourse, in terms of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, is being considered. Our client has for many years been involved in fundraising for public benefit organizations, is a founding member of a Child Abuse Fund, and is involved in the website http://www.realsouthafrica.co.za, which raises funds for various welfare organizations. The unlawful and defamatory statements contained on the aforesaid website will have serious negative consequences on such fundraising activities, not to mention the good reputation and name that our client has in the community.

A damages action will be proceeded with in due course.

Pieter Boshoff

Depends on where in South Africa you live, and which age group you fall under.. Also, it depends on the way your folks brought you up, and which schools/university you attended. I, myself, have absolutely no problems with gays whatsoever!

I adore them...
