Why is it that people can mock skinny/slim women but the moment you call someone 'fat', it is offending?

I think it is abit harsh how some people - women in particular - slate girls for being slim and yet when an overweight person is around they never critise their weight as openly?

I also have a big problem with that - I am natually thin, so is the rest of my family, and I have been getting crap about it from people for years. People assume that I am sick or have an eating disorder. I have had total strangers tell me I need to eat something. I even had someone ask me if I had to shop at a special store to find clothes that fit. It's not like I'm ridiculously skinny, about 110 pounds. But people would never say such things to an overweight person. What gives?!

Because usually when people say you're so skinny, eat something, they're joking and as you said, giving a compliment. When you're telling someone that's overweight that they're so fat that they need to lose weight, it's an insult. And I'm sure the BMI test didn't say you were anorexic because there's no way they can know that. It can, however, say that you're underweight. Just like people can be overweight and still be healthy, people can be underweight and still be healthy. It just depends on if it's natural or not. If you're skinny because you're just naturally thin there's nothing wrong with that. If you've exercised to that point though, there probably is a problem. You're probably still in high school. Over the years, your metabolism will slow down. But if you really want to gain weight I suggest lots and lots of protein.

I wonder if they are really mocking or maybe they are just jealous. I think it is because most people would love to be skinny and they don't like those who are blessed with being skinny. The world has made it a shameful thing to be fat and I think that is why people shy away from critising fat people. I have a brother who was blessed to be skinny but he hated it. He would get so upset when somone would make a comment about it.

I find I've always had this problem, I was always very very skinny a genetic thing not because I chose it. People have no problem saying words like scrawny and stuff to people too small but if you went around saying someone overweight was gross there would be a huge problem with that. Its the same thing tho!

i dont think thats true at all in fact i would say that heavier people get critized more openly than any one.. look at the media the clothing stores and people's attitudes towards larger people in general. Not sure what kind of people you are associating with but if your group of friends openly critizes each other they may not really be friends, big or small people of all sizes need to respect each other and not put so much emphasis on looks as long as the person is healthy and happy what else matters?

i agree. i'm naturally skinny. i've tried to gain weight but to no avail. I've had so many people comment on my weight that its made me self-conscious. I started drinking protein shakes and eating so much food that thats all i was doing and i still didnt gain a pound. People feel that its okay to comment on skinny people or make fun of them but it takes a toll. I hear it all the time and the people saying it think nothing of it. When people constantly comment on your weight no matter what it is, its gonna affect you.

I don't think skinny women get mocked nearly as much as fat women do. When you are overweight, it is assumed that you are lazy, stupid and have no self control. It's impossible to shop for stylish clothes or get respect from strangers.
I think the only "skinny" women that get mocked are ones who are too skinny, the ones who feel they need to starve themselves to fit into a sterotype.

its very true wht u have written , but slim is not as bad as being FAT .by saying a slim girl skinny or slim others are just being concerned abt the health factor , saying a fat girl fat its hurting because IT IS EAISER TO GET FAT AND DIFFICULT TO GET SLIM.

I think the real question here is:
On cs_assault, as a counter-terro, is it better to storm the front with 4-3 or 4-4 ???? And how many flashbags do you buy?
