Why would you buy one when it's not any better than the 360. The cheap one is $500 which is $100 more than the players pack 360. The expensive one is $600 and you can't upgrade the cheaper one to be the same as the more expensive one. I always see the fanboys saying that 360 sucks and that it has problems, well the PS3 isn't even out yet and it's going to have problems also. The first run of every console has some problems. Plus the Blu-Ray isn't proven and they found a better laser than the blue one. The 360 will let you expand to whatever dvd player they might put out in the future. All the developers have said the graphics are the same so there's no upgrade there.

For as much money as your going to spend on a PS3, you could get a 360 and a Wii for about the same price.

I have an Xbox 360 and am buying a PS3 (to sell). If you add the $200 HD DVD drive to the 360, the price is the same as the premium PS3 ($600) even though the PS3 has a larger harddrive and HDMI. So if you use them as HD movie players, they cost about the same, with the PS3 being more integrated and digital. It remains to be seen how reliable the PS3 will be, but my new 360 has also crashed several times in one month.

In the end it's about what games/movies you want to play or see, then buy the one that suits your taste more at the moment. There's no reason that you shouldn't buy the other console down the road as well.

The PS3's hardware is far superior to that of the 360. As of now the games look similar but we are comparing launch titles of the PS3 to games being released a full year after the launch of the 360. That is nothing for the 360 to be proud of.

In the next year or two developers will learn to utilize more of the PS3's capabilities and there will be a noticeable difference in the quality of the games.

I agree with you on the lesser of the two PS3's. I don’t see any reason to buy the 499 version and the PS3 is going to be full of bugs for awhile.

As for Blu-Ray, it is the superior technology when compared to HD-DVD. These high format disks don't directly give you better graphics. A simplified explanation is that Blu-Ray simply is capable of holding more data, which will provide better resolution, more detail, and lead to better graphics. Weather or not it survives is still a mystery, mainly because it is backed by Sony. Besides, a gamer is not buying a 360 or PS3 because it will play high def disks, that is just a bonus to us.

The ultimate measuring stick for the success or failure of a gaming machine will be the software. Sony is still much better at acquiring more and better licensing agreements with developers to bring games to the Playstation. Microsoft has gotten better with the 360, but still nowhere near the level of production of Sony.

by the end of 2007, expect the PS3 to be on top just like the PS2 was, Blu-Ray or no Blu-Ray.

The PS3 will be slightly more powerful than the 360, but it will have more features. I will have both eventually, but i will start with the PS3 only because Playstation has proven itself to me with 2 other consoles while the xbox only has one. I hope they both do well, for the sake of gaming.
