When asked if Saddam Hussain should suffer the death penalty Blair was rattled and bleated about Britain not having the death penalty - but would not say yes or no to the question. Was it because of double standards again or does he just like the sound of his own voice? Why do you think he cannot give a one word answer to a simple question?

tony blair cant answer this question because he has repealed the last hanging law in britain, the treason law, because he is a traitor to britain as regards europe and has covered his back, but in the eyes of the free english you cant have laws repealed in england by traitors, sooooo he cant very well cry for hanging can he even if it is saddam.

Mainly because he's trying to please everybody, by beating around the bush (no pun intended) & covering his bases. So he never goes either way and gives the most diluted, wishy-washy un-helpful answer.

David Milliband (the enviroment secretary) managed to get it right - Guilty verdict = Good, Death Penalty = Bad, but it's the Iraqi's country so it's there choice (bit late to be realising the value of Iraqi choice isn't it?)

Come on Blair, have some balls! Your the PM for God sakes!

Because Mr Blair is absolutely terrified that if he gives a straight answer then someone will disagree with him and that someone might then not vote for him.

It is characteristic of his skill as a politician (and that is NOT a complement) that he still does this, seemingly automatically, even though it no longer matters to him personally.

For the same reason we cannot here it is all about politics by committing the answer to either Yes or No would mean standing by the decision taken therefore one would be open to criticism which as any politician will tell you would be committing suicide in the first degree.

dont get me worng i havent got much time for tony blair. however it is pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that the question of capital punishment cannot be answered in one word. in fact anyone who thinks or wishes that it can be are evidently too stupid to have a mentionable opionion about anything; other than what colour underpants they intend to wear tommorow.

Whenever a politician gives a simple answer they upset as many people as they please. So they prevaricate...obfuscate...talk boll*cks & that way we are none the wiser but at least we don't get upset with them.

And of course, most questions have a built in bias or assumption so the answer has to be qualified.

I have never known a politician give a straight answer to a straight question they do not know how to, they will always give an answer but not one that answers your question
