pre-natal care can be very expensive if you don't have medical coverage. as for finding the right doctor ask around to find out who people recommend.

Cost depends entirely on your insurance and where you live. My son didn't cost me a dime, I went to the OB probably 15 times, the doctor(s) was with me for 8 hours of my labor, in a ddition to being in the hospital for 6 days and having emergency surgery and 2 blood transfusions. That's what good insurance does. Out of pocket the bills were in the thousands and I totaly did not expect to have any complications so I would have been screwed (no pun).
Just a standard labor and delivery will cost $1000 at the hospital, you need to go the the doctor at least monthly, then weekly at the end, and there are some necessary blood tests you'll need. If you don't have insurance you need to see if your state has a program for uninsured pregnancy, my state does. Get in the program ASAP.
Then, depending on how much choice you have for doctors on your insurance, ask anyone you know with kids who they recommend, or if you have friends in the medical field- they have great recommendations. You can also check with the pediatrician you will be using for the baby, they can make recommendations locally for you.

You can see your regular GYN if she isn't also an obstetrician she can refer you to one. You can also ask your friends and family for recommendations. Some doctors will not see you until you are at least 8 weeks pregnant but you should still call them now so you can get a prescription for prenatal vitamins. It is very important that you get the folic acid now. Depending on where you live it costs approximately $3000-$5000 to have a baby. That covers the cost of prenatal care as well as delivery. If you have insurance check with your policy. When I had my son I only had to pay a $5.00 copay for each visit. Some of my friends had to pay 20%. If you don't have insurance call medical assistance for help. Also get into the WIC program to help you buy nutritious food while you are pregnant.

First if you dont have medical insurance i would find out what your state has and get on it. In my state in massachusetts it is mass health. then I would decide whether or not you want a nurse practitioner, a dr. or a midwife. In my case I wasnt allowed a dr. since dr. at my hospital are use for high risk women and pregnancys, so i could choose between a nurse practitioner or a midwife. I chose a nurse practiotioner but now I am 39 weeks and wish I had chosen the midwife because they actually get more personal with you and tell you more things you want to know and they get to deliver your baby. My nurese will not be delivering my baby it will be whatever dr. is on that night. as soon as you decide I would get in to the person of your choice where they will ask you your last menstrual period and give you an estimated due date of your babys arrival and give you a prescription of prenatal vitamins and at this point they will schedule your next appoinment and your good to go. they will take good care of you and your baby.

You can always met the doctor before committing to one. Maybe even call your local hospital and see who they suggest. If you don't have insurance, lots of doctors let you make payments, and so will the hospital. As for clothes, etc, you can always buy second hand. Have someone throw you a baby shower, you will get more than enough stuff from that. If you breast fed you don't have to worry about any formula cost. Good luck and congratulations!

Find a midwife, not a doctor. Also, I don't know where you live, but where I live, there is aide available for pregnant women to recieve prenatal care. The best thing you can do for your baby right this second is start eating well right away and go to the store and buy prenatal vitamins and start taking those right away. They don't cost too much and any doctor or midwife will tell you how important it is to take them.

First, start taking a prenatal vitamin, one that has at least 600mcg of folic acid. (Stuart's is really good) Go to your regular OB/GYN who does your PAP each year and talk to them about options. They can tell you prices and if you have insurance, how much it will cover of doctor's visits and labor/delivery. Check with your work on how much your insurance covers just to make sure they mesh and look into maternity leave and your rights as a pregnant mother for future planning. Best of luck and congratulations!

Your next step is to see your GP or Planned parenthood for a comformation blood test then you start seeing and OB, if you do not have insurence you can apply for medical assistance. If you have a co-pay on your insurence you pay the inital doctor fee then you do not pay for any further ob visits.

It's expensive.
Ask someone you know who has had a baby recently about finding a good doctor.

I found my ob/gyn 10 years ago by asking my friends who they liked. If you have insurance, it is not expensive at all. (One co-pay covered all my doctor visits). Out of pocket, we have had to pay less than a $1000 for my beautiful baby boy! I cannot even imagine what it costs without insurance...
