Heavy metal rock does not degrade women and doesn't usually condone violence, but I've hardly heard a hard core rap song that didn't degrade women and promote violence. Heavy metal is characterized by the music behind the lyrics moreso than the actual words to the songs, so my above comment is a generalized statement about rock music at large. Rap music also has varying degrees of extremity, but the most extreme rap song has similar themes as the least extreme forms - self gratification, and violence.
So no. Rap and rock are NOT the same thing.

not at all. I listen to alot of heavy metal and Ive never once heard and degrading lyrics(towards women) violence, yes, but mostly self directed.

Agreed with those above me asserting the variations in the two Heavy steel and sophisticated Rock and Rap and Hip-Hop. That being suggested, for me, complicated Rock and Heavy steel are the two greater advantageous in my e book and series. i've got faith that with those genres, there is greater soul to them than is in Rap and Hip-Hop music. I additionally experience that complicated Rock and steel have greater skills to hand, and that they use it greater suitable than the transverse artists. yet back, this could nicely be an quite opinion-based situation.
