Try taking it to your local jeweler and he can advise you best. They can melt it and do anything you want.

It would be easier to go to a jeweler and have them do it for you, but it's possible to do your own silversmithing. There's a few different techniques but for what you want to do sandstone silver casting would probably be easiest. It involves carving the design into a block of standstone, melting the silver, and pouring it in to the carved stone.

If you do go to a jeweler to have the work done--and I encourage you to go this route--make certain you find one who will switch out equally half your sterling silver for clean casting grain sterling silver.

Casting a piece of jewelry in sterling normally works best if you have at least half of the initial metal "clean"--i.e., it has not been cast or used in fabrication previously. This "clean" metal helps to prevent problems such as porousity in the final jewelry piece.

I am always willing to switch out equal amounts of silver with my clients when making custom pieces for other pieces of jewelry. A success for them is a success for me--we all win.

I would suggest that you go to a jewelery store and ask them to melt it down into what you want, that way you are sure to achieve what you want and there would be no accidents. You would not need to buy molds and anything else that it takes to melt these things down. Good luck.
