A shower is fine but you should not take a bath without your doc's permission. If your water breaks at home, make note of the time and if there was any color to the fluid and call your caregiver.

Not if your water has already broken. Your first concern is getting to the hospital. Luckily, I had just taken a shower before my water broke! So I finished up doing my hair and packing my bag, and off I went. You could always take one at the hospital afterwards.

I think it depends on whether this is your first baby or not. My water broke with my first baby, and I didn't even start contracting for another 6 hours. No hurry getting to the hospital in that case. In fact, I had my baby almost exactly 24 hours after my water broke.
The shower itself is probably safe, but the nursing staff in my case wanted "proof" that my water broke, i.e. a sample of the amniotic fluid. If you shower, you may not have that to give them. If this is a second baby, I'd get myself to the hospital ASAP, since subsequent deliveries typically go much faster than first deliveries.

If it will make you more comfortable then absolutely! You are about to go thru quite an ordeal, a little primping might help relax you some.
Also try to eat something. I remember strictly following the "rules" about not eating after midnite the nite before going into be induced, then finding out after it was too late that I could have eaten a light breakfast! arrgh! It was a long time before I could eat, and those ice chips were no substitute! lol
With my 2nd I went into labor naturally, but I refused to get in the car until someone went and got me some Taco Bell!

I know my sister and mother both took showers before going to the hospital. But you need to be careful because you risk getting an infection...you should technically go straight to the hospital.

When your water breaks, you run the risk of infection. This is why some women whose water breaks but delivery comes much later are put on antibiotics. I would just go to the hospital. Once you get through delivery, you're going to be sweaty anyway. Best of luck!

Sure it's safe. As long as your contractions aren't too close. I actually made my husband take me home (we were at the movies) so I could shower and shave my legs before I went to the hospital. I refused to go stinky and with hairy legs!!!!

I read in "what to expect when your expecting" That some women do take showers because labor can run really long, and this will be your last shower before you give birth. Some women go all out.....makeup and everything! I guess it all depends on how you feel.
