Li is an alkali metal (Group I). Hence, it's very electropositive and therefore, very reactive. However, it's the least reactive of the alkali metals. As one travels upward in Group I, the reactivity of the elements decreases. Li is about as reactive as the alkaline earth metal, Ca. If dropped into water, it fizzes, liberating H2 gas. But it doesn't react violently, like the other Group I elements, in this regard.
