I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks because I was having a sharp pain in my side, and they wanted to rule out a tubal pregnancy. Originally, my first ultrasound was supposed to be around 8 or 9 weeks. I don't think it's too common for people to get ultrasounds at 6 weeks, but every doctor is different with a different philosophy.

Usually, ultrasounds are only given this early if there's suspicion that something might be wrong, like if the woman is bleeding. My first ultrasound was at 14 weeks.

Here wherein I reside the health care professional/midwife may not even see you earlier than 10 weeks! Unless you could have an emergency! Normally you can not pay attention the heart beat till 10 weeks or even then it is faint. The little one correct now at 6 weeks is approximately the dimensions of a blueberry and you are seeking to pay attention a heartbeat by way of all of that belly gurgling and poop relocating to your bowels? Your phases are well and it kind of feels to be progressing and I critically believe that you are first-class and that your little one's heartbeat can be heard at 10 weeks.

Ultrasounds are more and more common, so it isnt all that surprising. I remember with my 1st, I was dying to have one, not just to learn the sex, but just to SEE it. They wouldnt give me one because there was no need.
With my 2nd they HAD to give me one because I was 5-6 months along before I figured it out and they needed to determine the approximate due date. But that was the only one I had.
Nowadays they are done almost routinely at every checkup.

I had a ultrasound at 5-1/2 weeks. I had been on clomid and had had a blighted ovum my previous pregnancy so they were looking for a multiple birth and to make sure that it wasn't another blighted ovum. All you can see that early is a sac with a beating heart in it.

I didnt have one with my first who is now 3. But with the same doc they wanted to do one at my 8 weeks, (found out I was only 6 though)
But beware it is an internal one! not one on the outside, I was in for a shock invited my friend and everything, I made her wait outside and it was just me and my hubby!
They just want to check that your overies are ok and your uterus ... They cant see much of the baby at that time, they are just checking your internal organs, for your safety!
Good Luck!

I had an ultrasound done @ 8wks, Just because...I got my first pregnancy test from a Pregnancy Care Center, And they'd just gotten the ultrasound equipment and asked me if I would be willing to have one done...I of course jumped at the chance to see my little one! :-)
