Charity is not the answer to poverty. Education is. Charity's are usually best at giving hand-outs which when needed can be very beneficial. However, it doesn't teach the beneficiaries how to get out of the situation they are in. As soon as what they received is gone, they are back where they started. You give a man a fish and he eats for a day - you teach a man to fish and he eats for the rest of his life.

No amount of charity will ever be enough to eliminate poverty. It would take the cancellation of all third world debt, and the redistribution of the enormous wealth of countries such as the USA and the UK. There is enough money and enough food in the world for every single human being to live to a decent standard, to have access to good food, clean water, clothing, housing, education, medical care etc. The problem is that it is all in the hands of super-wealthy individuals and corporations. To end world poverty we would have to end greed. Its a sad situation, but thats the way it is.

Charities aren't the solution, unfortunately.
Corrupt governments are a major cause of poverty.
